{"id":283,"date":"2016-01-16T23:03:38","date_gmt":"2016-01-17T06:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grassmonk.net\/blog\/?p=283"},"modified":"2016-01-16T23:04:16","modified_gmt":"2016-01-17T06:04:16","slug":"stuff-not-from-my-2015-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grassmonk.net\/blog\/2016\/01\/16\/stuff-not-from-my-2015-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"Stuff not from my 2015 goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes it feels like I did more stuff outside of <a title=\"Goals for 2015\" href=\"http:\/\/www.grassmonk.net\/blog\/2015\/01\/10\/goals-for-2015\/\">my goals list<\/a> than inside, I might copy previous blog entry introductions, there may be commentary, etc. Not included here are movies from <a title=\"My favorite (and not) movies of 2015\" href=\"http:\/\/www.grassmonk.net\/blog\/2016\/01\/10\/my-favorite-and-not-movies-of-2015\/\">my 2015 favorites list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TV<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Hadn&#8217;t seen before:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agent Carter (season 1)<\/li>\n<li>Daredevil (season 1)<\/li>\n<li>Freaks and Geeks (season 1\/the complete series)<\/li>\n<li>Heroes Reborn (most of season 1)<\/li>\n<li>Parks and Recreation (seasons 1-7)<\/li>\n<li>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (season 1)<\/li>\n<li>Toy Story That Time Forgot<\/li>\n<li>The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (season 1)<\/li>\n<li>Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp (season 1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Had seen before<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heroes (seasons 2-4)<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m a sucker for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so <em>Agent Carter<\/em> and <em>Daredevil<\/em> were no-brain watchers for me.\u00a0 I really enjoyed both of them, and am looking forward to the second seasons in 2016.\u00a0 The hallway fight scene from the first or second episode of <em>Daredevil<\/em> was a standout moment of pure awesomeness.<\/p>\n<p>I had heard good things about <em>Freaks and Geeks<\/em>, though I don&#8217;t recall from where.\u00a0 My wife and I watched it on Netflix in the fall and it was pretty great.\u00a0 It was fascinating to see a young James Franco and Seth Green, and especially John Francis Daley.<\/p>\n<p>I decided one day that as I had put off <em>The Office<\/em>, so had I put off <em>Parks and Recreation<\/em>, and it was time to watch.\u00a0 I binge-watched the whole thing in about 3 weeks and it was absolutely fantastic.\u00a0 It took me some time to warm to some of the characters, but somewhere in season 2 I just began to love it all.\u00a0 I think it&#8217;s a show I could watch again in a couple of years.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been my intention to watch <em>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine<\/em> and <em>Star Trek: Voyager <\/em>for a while, it just took some time to get to.\u00a0 I&#8217;m attempting to watch them more or less in continuity order, which means I started <em>DS9<\/em> in the middle of <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em> season 6.\u00a0 It hasn&#8217;t captured me like <em>TNG<\/em> yet, but I hear it gets pretty good, so here&#8217;s hoping.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to watch <em>Kimmy Schmidt<\/em> based on Tina Fey&#8217;s involvement, and wow, what a funny, funny show.\u00a0 I am eagerly awaiting season 2.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp<\/em> is a Netflix original show; a prequel to the film from some years ago.\u00a0 It was spotlighted whenever I would start up Netflix, and the cast of the film sounded good, so I watched it, liked it, and then watched the show.<\/p>\n<p>I watched my DVD set of <em>Heroes <\/em>season 1 and decided to watch the other seasons on Netflix since <em>Heroes Reborn<\/em> was to premiere in the fall.\u00a0 I still think season 1 was by far the best, but the others were still pretty good, and not as bad as I remembered.\u00a0 <em>Heroes Reborn<\/em> is great whenever Jack Coleman, Masi Oka, or Zachary Levi is on screen, and generally okay otherwise.\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking forward to the final three episodes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Movies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Hadn&#8217;t seen before:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Braveheart<\/li>\n<li>Bridesmaids<\/li>\n<li>The Cat Returns<\/li>\n<li>Chasing Amy<\/li>\n<li>The Interview<\/li>\n<li>Kill Me Three Times<\/li>\n<li>Kingsman: The Secret Service<\/li>\n<li>Maleficent<\/li>\n<li>Mission: Impossible II<\/li>\n<li>The Painting<\/li>\n<li>Paranorman<\/li>\n<li>Planes: Fire &amp; which included the game and a Green Yarn Yoshi amiibo.\u00a0 We, of course, bought the other two colors of Yarn Yoshi as well (and eventually one of each color for each child).\u00a0 <em>YWW<\/em> turned out to be really fun, and really difficult at times (or it would have been really difficult had we not played on &#8220;mellow&#8221; mode).<\/p>\n<p>Early in 2015 Nintendo released a couple of Wii titles for the Wii U Virtual Console.\u00a0 One of the first was the <em>Metroid Prime <\/em>trilogy for a price of just $10.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t really like the controls introduced in <em>Metroid Prime 3<\/em>, which were carried over to the trilogy re-release of <em>MP<\/em> and <em>MP2<\/em>, but I wanted to experience the widescreen presentation of the original games, and for the price I figured why not.\u00a0 So I played through the first two games, which remain my favorite <em>Metroid<\/em> games, and somehow didn&#8217;t replay the third.\u00a0 I guess that&#8217;ll be on the 2016 list along with <em>Metroid Fusion<\/em> and <em>Metroid: Zero Mission<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes old school is the best school.\u00a0 I remember first playing <em>A Link to the Past<\/em> at around 12 years old.\u00a0 I replayed it on the Wii U and it&#8217;s a lot harder than I remember it being, but still one of the great <em>Zelda<\/em> games.\u00a0 <em>The Minish Cap<\/em> was released some time ago for the Wii U Virtual Console, and I finally bought it and played it a couple of months ago.\u00a0 I had played it some years back on a Gameboy Advance emulator, but remembered very little about it.\u00a0 It was fun, and I hope to enjoy more <em>Zelda<\/em> goodness in 2016, with <em>Skyward Sword<\/em>, possibly more\u00a0<em>Hyrule Warriors<\/em> content, and hopefully the new Wii U <em>Zelda<\/em> title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes it feels like I did more stuff outside of my goals list than inside, I might copy previous blog entry introductions, there may be commentary, etc. Not included here are movies from my 2015 favorites list.
