This is the second of two poems I wrote for assignments in a BYU French class.\u00a0 This one is more serious in nature, but I still giggle every time I read it, because I thought I was so clever, and I’m still wise\/immature enough to think I was clever.\u00a0 We were studying some different French poetry and themes and the assignment was to write a poem of our own using one of the themes.\u00a0 I remember three of the themes being love, nature, and death, and it seems there was at least one more, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it is.\u00a0 At any rate, I decided to try to use all the themes together, and I think the result is morbidly splendid, not to mention the foreign-language writing being not too shabby.\u00a0 Like the last poem<\/a>, I got an A-, probably for minor grammar errors (which are corrected in this text).<\/p>\n

This is called “r\u00e9paration de l’amour” (“reparation of love”).<\/p>\n

Depuis que tue es partie
\nje sais que tu me regardes du ciel
\nj’entends ta voix sur le vent
\net ta pres\u00e9nce m’enveloppe avec
\nchaque souffle que je prends.<\/p>\n

La for\u00eat de notre enfance
\na chang\u00e9 aussi\u2014
\ntrop pour te d\u00e9crire tout
\nmaintentant.<\/p>\n

Ton esprit me touche
\nchaque fois que je pense\u00a0\u00e0 toi.
\nTes yeux me regardent
\navec une innocence aveugle.<\/p>\n

Et quand je me souviens
\ndu dernier jour
\nje veux mettre la m\u00eame corde
\nautour de mon cou
\net te trouver o\u00f9 je t’ai envoy\u00e9e.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And the rough English translation:<\/p>\n

Since you left
\nI know that you watch me from heaven
\nI hear your voice on the wind
\nand your presence envelops me with
\neach breath that I take.<\/p>\n

The forest of our childhood
\nhas changed also\u2014
\ntoo much to describe it all
\nnow.<\/p>\n

Your spirit touches me
\neach time that I think of you.
\nYour eyes watch me
\nwith a blind innocence.<\/p>\n

And when I remember
\nthe last day
\nI want to put the same rope
\naround my neck
